Letters: Riccardo Brings Vast Experience

Also, David Genovese writes that the Republican Board of Selectmen slate "has done a remarkable job of advancing new initiatives."

Riccardo brings vast experience and tireless dedication

To the Editor:

As a member of the Planning & Zoning Commission, I have had the privilege and pleasure of working closely with Vickie Riccardo for the past two years. During that time, I have been impressed with Vickie's hard work, attention to detail, and sincere dedication to trying to do what is right for Darien. As a P&Z Commissioner, Vickie has confronted many of the big issues facing this town including affordable housing, storm water management, parking, coastal resource management, wetland and inland waterway protection, and business and community development and re-development.

Her experience on P&Z combined with her prior experience as a member of the RTM and the Charter Revision Commission, as well as her years of volunteer work with the Tokeneke School and the YWCA, will serve her extraordinarily well on the Board of Selectmen.

Vickie will be missed on the Planning & Zoning Commission, but I know that she will continue to serve the very best interests of Darien as a selectman. Please join me in voting for Vickie along with her exceptional running mates John Lundeen and David Bayne who have likewise shown a tremendous dedication to the vitality, well-being, and success of our great town.

Let’s maintain the momentum

As a local businessman, I am asked frequently, “for whom are you voting this year?” Today, the choice is very clear to me. Since taking office, the team of Jayme Stevenson, Dave Campbell and Jerry Nielsen has done a remarkable job of advancing new initiatives such as the facilities transfer, and stopping for good reason projects which had little merit, such as the Baker Field deforestation. They have amplified the focus upon maintaining our infrastructure, which has reduced the impact of flooding in our neighborhoods at significantly lower cost. They guided Darien toward a moratorium on 8-30g, while at the same time creating the opportunity for affordable housing initiatives to blossom, such as 397 Post Road.

I worked closely with Dave, Jayme and Jerry to bring back our first Fourth of July Fireworks show in many years. From the initial development of our plan, to the clean-up of the fields, they were with us every step of the way, literally. I have never seen various departments of Darien’s town government work as cohesively toward a goal in the ten years I have been living here. The same holds true for other important initiatives around town. Let’s maintain the momentum.
