Police Release Names From West Ave. Collision

Christopher Chiamulera, 14, sustained "life threatening" injuries Friday when he was struck by a car on West Ave.

Darien Police have released the names of the driver and injured skateboarder from last week's West Avenue collision.

Christopher Chiamulera, 14, of Darien sustained "life threatening" injuries Friday when he was struck by a car outside 260 West Ave. around 5:15 p.m.

Chiamulera was transported to a second hospital in New York yesterday for surgery to his legs, where his injuries were concentrated. His condition is unknown at this time.

Sgt. Jeremiah Marron said the driver of the 2005 Pontiac G6, identified as Thomas Cicero, 40, of Stamford, was unhurt in the incident.

No charges have been field against Cicero, but the accident remains under investigation by the department, Marron said.

Police said the accident occurred when Chiamulera, who had been skateboarding along the back entrance to McGuane Field, entered the westbound travel lane of West Avenue for unknown reasons. There, he collided with the front right portion of the vehicle, inflicting significant trauma and moderate damage to the vehicle.
