Sporadic Outages as Thunderstorms Lash Darien
Darien missed a direct hit from a cell capable of producing tornadoes, but the town was still hit by multiple bands of powerful storms.
Update, 11:12 a.m.: The number of CL&P customers without power has climbed to 41 as of this hour.
Update, 2:20 a.m.: 29 CL&P customers are reportedly still without power in Darien—a number that hasn't moved in 3 hours.
Less-than-welcome news: the forecast calls for thunderstorms Friday night, too.

Update, 10:06 p.m.: There are still just 19 CL&P customers reported without power in Darien. The town dodged a bit of a bullet compared to nearby New Canaan (1,447 customers without power), Wilton (1,956), Norwalk (1,797), and Stamford (713).
Update, 9:55 p.m.: Yet another band of storms is moving through Darien at the moment. A flood advisory remains in effect through 10:45 p.m.

Update, 9:07 p.m.: Firefighters are responding to a report of a burning tree near 6 Pasture Lane which reportedly made contact with a set of wires.
Update, 9:05 p.m.: Remarkably, CL&P reports just 16 customers without power in Darien as of this hour.
Update, 9:00 p.m.: The National Weather Service has canceled the severe thunderstorm warning, as the band of storms in question has weakened and moved out over Long Island Sound. A severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect through 11 p.m., however.
Update, 8:36 p.m.: Another round of storms is currently rolling through. A severe thunderstorm warning remains in effect until 9 p.m., while the severe thunderstorm watch has been extended to 11 p.m.
Meanwhile, most of Hollow Tree Ridge Road has been cleared for traffic.
Update, 8:08 p.m.: Firefighters have left the scene of a fallen tree at 35 Mansfield Avenue, but the road is still blocked due to a downed power line.

Update, 7:25 p.m.: Power is reported out near Holmes School.
Update, 7:15 p.m.: The Post Road railroad underpass has, predictably, flooded.
Update, 7:13 p.m.: Darien police report Hoyt Street is closed in both directions near Woodway Road. The cause was not immediately known.
Update, 7:11 p.m.: CL&P reports just 9 Darien customers without power as of 7:05 p.m.
Update, 7:06 p.m.: The severe thunderstorm warning for the area has expired, says the National Weather Service; a severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect until 9 p.m.
Update, 7:03 p.m.: Mansfield Avenue is closed from Post Road to Sedgewick Avenue, say police, as well as portions of Hollow Tree Ridge Road blocked by downed trees.
Update, 6:55 p.m.: A number of trees are reported down around town, including at a residence at 35 Mansfield Ave. Reponders are on the scene.
Original article: The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunerstderstorm warning for Darien and surrounding areas through 7:00 p.m.—the second such warning of the evening as a series of intense storms swept across Fairfield County Wednesday.
Darien was spared the worst of an earlier burst of activity which skirted the area around 5:30 p.m., but another round of storms began barreling through the county around 6:00 p.m.
The NWS says the latest storm is capable of productining golf ball-sized hail and 60 m.p.h. winds. At last check, it was centered seven miles west of New Canaan moving southeast at 30 m.p.h.
A severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect through 9:00 p.m., as well.
CL&P reported no significant power outages in Darien as of 6:05 p.m., but Metro-North service was halted along the Danbury line due to fallen tree on the tracks north of Wilton.
Earlier, a tornado warning was issued for the county; preliminary reports indicate a twister may have touched down in the town of Fairfield.
