Thieves Drag Pickup, Boost Commercial Lawn Mower From Back

The truck was parked against an office building on Thorndal Circle at the time, police said.

"Multiple" thieves stole a commercial lawn mower out of a pickup last week after dragging the truck along the ground to access the back, according to Darien police.

Capt. Fred Komm said that the mower, a 48-inch Bobcat valued at $2,862, was taken from a Ford F-250 parked against an office building on Thorndal Circle.

The facility's groundskeeper contacted police around 6:45 a.m. Wednesday to report the theft. He told police that he last saw the mower around 4 p.m. the day before.

According to Komm, skids marks were found under the vehicle indicating it had been dragged away from the building by an "unknown method."

It appeared as though thieves had lifted the mower out of the truck bed, Komm added, as the pickup was still too close to the wall to use the 8-foot aluminum loading ramps stored with it.

Those ramps — valued at $250 — were also taken in the theft, Komm said.
