1 Killed In Fiery Crash, Another Seriously Injured, Middlefield Fire Officials Say

MIDDLEFIELD, CT — One person had died and another person was seriously injured in a late night crash in Middlefield, fire officials said.

At 11:56 p.m. Friday, the Middlefield Volunteer Fire Company, Hunters Ambulance, and a Middlesex Hospital Paramedic responded to a motor vehicle accident on Meriden Road (Route 66) just east of the intersection of Baileyville Road, officials said.

First arriving units found a two-car motor vehicle accident with serious damage sustained to both vehicles. One vehicle had rolled over onto its roof and had a fire in its engine compartment, officials said. Multiple bystanders rescued the occupant from the vehicle, pulling them to safety, officials said.

Rescue & EMS personnel treated this patient for serious injuries. LIFESTAR helicopter was requested and later cancelled. The patient was transported to Hartford Hospital by Hunter’s Ambulance for further treatment.

The occupant of a second vehicle involved sustained serious injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The identity of the victim has not yet been released.
