• Dog dead, person injured in explosive fire that destroyed an historic Durham home, officials say (greenwichtime.com) — A historic 18th-century home on Middlefield Road in Durham was destroyed Friday morning in a fire that caused multiple explosions, killed at least one dog, and sent one person to the hospital. Firefighters from several departments battled the blaze, which officials believe started in the basement and spread rapidly through the old balloon-frame construction, leaving the landmark Ithamar Parsons House a total loss.
