12th Annual Gelding Clinic

A clinic to help economically challenged horse owners castrate their colts/stallions.

The CDHR is hosting the 12th Annual Gelding Clinic on Saturday, April 20, 2024 (rain date, Sunday, April 21st) from 8am-4pm to help economically challenged horse owners castrate their colts/stallions. Veterinary students from Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University, under the direct supervision of both Tufts and local veterinarians, have all graciously volunteered their time and expertise to perform the gelding. The cost is $125 per horse/mule/donkey and covers all necessary aspects of the procedure, including anesthesia administration by trained professionals, the surgery itself, pain medication for comfort, and a penicillin injection to prevent infection. This comprehensive package ensures that each animal receives the best possible care during and after the procedure. Please note: the clinic will take place at the CDHR (113 Chestnut Hill Rd, East Hampton CT 06424), so the rescue will be closed to the public on that day.

Pre-registration and pre-payment are required. Registration deadline is April 8, 2024. To find out more and to register: https://www.ctdraftrescue.org/geldingclinic2024. Questions: contact ctdraftrescue@aol.com. Since the start of this program, the CDHR has helped over 121 equines and horse owners in need prevent unwanted horses.
