5 Super Athletes With Ties To Durham-Middlefield

Sports have a way of teaching invaluable life lessons — building character, fostering teamwork and strengthening the bonds within a community. In the Durham-Middlefield area, these values have shaped some truly remarkable athletes from different eras, whose accomplishments continue to inspire.
Patch has teamed up with T-Mobile to spotlight five standout athletes whose achievements have left a lasting mark on our community. While this list is just a snapshot, there are countless others who have helped shape the rich sports culture in our area.
1. Chris Fosdick (Golf)
Chris Fosdick, a Middlefield native, has made significant strides in the world of golf. He played for the University of Virginia men's golf team before turning professional in June 2024. Fosdick's dedication and skill have marked him as a notable figure in Middlefield's sporting community.

2. Jack Huscher (Football)
Jack Huscher, hailing from Durham, was a standout football player at Coginchaug High School. His excellence on the field and in academics earned him recognition as a scholar-athlete by the National Football Foundation. Huscher's achievements exemplify the balance of athletic and academic dedication celebrated in Durham.
3. Kate Schulten (Track and Field)
Kate Schulten, a Middlefield native, is a dedicated track and field athlete who competed for Fordham University. She was a member of the cross country and track and field teams at Coginchaug Regional High School in Durham, before continuing her athletic career at the collegiate level. Schulten's commitment to her sport has been a source of pride for the Middlefield community.

4. Kelsey Tuthill (Softball)
Kelsey Tuthill, of Middlefield, is a former softball player who achieved remarkable success during her collegiate career at Emerson College. She completed her career with a 15-2 record, two saves, a 1.79 ERA, 182 strikeouts and just 23 walks in 121 innings. Her 10.5 strikeouts per seven innings ranked fifth in the nation in Division III. Tuthill's outstanding performance earned her Emerson's Female Athlete of the Year award.
5. MacGuire O'Sullivan (Baseball)
MacGuire O'Sullivan was a multi-athlete talent at Coginchaug High, playing baseball, basketball and soccer. He went on to pursue a career in baseball at the collegiate level, making a name for himself at Assumption University. His involvement in NCAA baseball highlights the town's contribution to nurturing athletic talent in America's pastime.
