1 Killed, 2 Hospitalized After Head-On Crash In Durham: State Police
One person was killed and two others were hospitalized after a crash that closed part of Route 17 for several hours on Monday, police said.

DURHAM, CT — One person was killed and two others were hospitalized after a three-vehicle crash on Route 17 in Durham on Monday afternoon, according to Connecticut State Police.
Troopers responded around 1:15 p.m. to Route 17 in the area of Corn Cob Road in Durham on the report of a multi-vehicle crash.
Police said a 2014 Ram 1500 truck was traveling south on Route 17 when it collided head-on with a 2021 Lexus GX 460 that was traveling in the opposite direction.

The driver of a 2022 GMC Sierra was traveling south behind the Ram and tried to stop, but slid due to the snowy conditions and struck the passenger side of the Lexus when it crossed the southbound lane, according to police.
Police said the driver of the Ram, identified as 86-year-old John J. Festa of Northford, was taken to Middlesex Hospital, where he later died. The truck’s passenger was also hospitalized with serious injuries, according to police.

The driver of the Lexus was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital for minor injuries, police said.
The driver of the GMC Sierra wasn’t injured.
Route 17 was closed in both directions at Stagecoach Road for several hours, but was reopened around 8 p.m.
The crash remains under investigation, and any witnesses are asked to contact Trooper Stefan Inglis at 860-399-2100.
