DM Resident Troopers Taking Back Unwanted RX Drugs

Drop off your old unused prescription drugs to be disposed of properly and keep them out of your home where anyone could misuse them!

DEA Drug Take Back Day: Middlefield and Durham, April 30th, 2022, 10 am – 2 pm:

Do you have any unused, unwanted, or expired medications in your home? Dispose of them safely by bringing your RX Drugs to the Middlefield Resident Troopers Office (405 Main Street) or the Durham Resident Troopers Office (24 Townhouse Road) on Saturday, April 30th, 2022, from 10 am – 2 p.m.

The Connecticut State Police, Troop F, and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will give the public an opportunity to prevent RX Drug abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous, expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs. Take-back efforts reduce the amount of available prescription drugs in communities to limit access and avoid misuse by allowing for a safe, legal, and environmentally friendly disposal of prescription drugs that is free and anonymous to all residents; with no questions asked.

Since 2014, our community has safely disposed of over 1,000 pounds of medication. That is 1,000 pounds of medication that has reduced the risk of prescription drugs being consumed inappropriately – either by accident or through illegal sale or possession. Our efforts thus far cannot end here as “Prescription drug misuse is increasing at alarming rates,” said Dena Miccinello, Prevention Coordinator with the Durham Middlefield Local Wellness Coalition, “our data shows that most of illegal prescription drug use occurs when people get them from a friend or family member, for free.”

The Prescription Drug Take-Back Day is staffed and provided as a continuing proactive effort by The Connecticut State Police, Troop F to prevent drug abuse before it happens in our community. This event is supported and organized by The Durham Middlefield Local Wellness Coalition, Durham Middlefield Youth & Family Services and both Towns of Durham and Middlefield Connecticut.
