Durham-Area Gas Prices Nearing $2 a Gallon
Despite gas prices getting close to $2 per gallon nationwide, Connecticut is among the top 10 most expensive states to gas up your car.

Despite falling gas prices, Connecticut is once again among the top ten most expensive states in which to fuel up.
According to the AAA Fuel Gauge report, the average price for a gallon of gas nationwide is $2.03 – fast approaching the $2 benchmark – but here in Connecticut, the average price for a gallon of unleaded is $2.25, the tenth most expensive state in the country.

Gas prices are at the lowest nationwide and are expected to drop just below $2 very soon, according to the Automobile Club of America (AAA).

At this time last year, the average price of gas in Connecticut was more than $3 a gallon — at $3.07 — a savings of 82 cents year over year. Also, the price of gas in Connecticut appears to be dropping again after creeping up a bit over the Thanksgiving holiday, according to AAA.
The Most Expensive Metro Areas to Gas Up In
According to the AAA Fuel Gauge report, the most expensive gas in Connecticut’s metro areas can be found in:
- Bridgeport at $2.34 for a gallon of unleaded
- $2.22 in the Hartford region
- $2.23 in New Haven-Meriden and New London-Norwich

- 2.03: Irving, 302 East Main St. & Wall St., Middletown
- 2.06: CITGO, 619 Saybrook Rd near Reservoir Rd., Middletown
- 2.12: Exxon, 24 Main St near Swamp Lane, Durham
- 2.35: CITGO, 22 New Haven Rd. & Higganum Rd., Durham
