Durham Church Holding a 'Blessing of the Animals' Ceremony

Oct. 4 marks the Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi, the popular Catholic medieval saint who is one of the most revered in church history.

But while St. Francis was known for his devotion, humility and love for fellow man, he is also remembered for another reason: being the patron saint of animals.

And to honor the occasion churches across Connecticut, the country and the world will continue the annual tradition known as the"blessing of the animals" ceremonies, including right here in Durham and nearby Middletown.

Here are the details:

The Church of the Epiphany, 196 Main St., Durham
Sunday Oct. 6 at noon
The blessing will be happening rain or shine. Details here.

St. Pius X Church, 310 Westfield St., Middletown
Sunday, Oct. 6 at 1 p.m.
Will be happening in the church's lower parking lot.
