Eagle Scout Project to Benefit Schools

13-year-old Brennan Bates is giving back to his community.
A member of Boy Scout Troop 270 in Durham, Brennan is planning to install new signs at both Korn and Brewster elementary schools for his Eagle Scout project.

The Coginchaug High School freshman came up with the idea after talking to the schools' principals about what was needed. So far, Brennan's raised about $1,500 towards the project which will cost between $2,000 to $4,000 to complete, he estimates.
Brennan is the younger brother of Connor Bates, who built an outdoor classroom last month at Brewster School for his Eagle Scout project.

The younger Bates joined the Cub Scouts when he was 5-years-old. His most memorable scouting experiences include white water rafting on the Hudson River, hiking Mt. Washington in New Hampshire and visiting Normandy, France.
Brennan received approval from the Board of Education to move forward with his project last month. He'll seek any additional approvals necessary and is in the process of choosing a sign company.
