Fire Crew Puts Out Brush Fire at Powder Ridge

Middlefield firefighters were called to the ski area early Monday morning after a brush fire reignited overnight.

 

Middlefield firefighters responded to a brush fire at Powder Ridge early Monday morning.

The fire broke out around 1:30 a.m. after a pile of brush reignited overnight, according to First Selectman Jon Brayshaw.

The flames were noticed by a neighbor who called 911. Firefighters responding to the fire had to cut through a lock to get through a gate at the entrance to the property.

But the fire was eventually doused and no damage was reported.

Workers have been burning brush at the property, which was purchased by Powder Ridge Mountain Park and Resort LLC in September, as part of an effort to restore the ski area, according to Brayshaw. The company has acquired the permit necessary to burn, he said.
