Karen Smith, Former Levi E. Coe Library Director, Passes at Age 72

Longtime Middlefield resident also served as a library aid at Coginchaug High School.

 

Karen Smith, 72, of Middlefield, beloved wife of 50 years to Albert Smith, died Sunday, February 10, 2013 at Middlesex Hospital.

She was born in Burlington, VT, daughter of the late Leslie and Ester (Alson) Tudhope and was raised in Madison, NJ. Prior to retirement, Karen was the director of Levi Coe Library in Middlefield and later served as a library aid at Coginchaug High School.

Besides her husband, she is survived by her son, Bradford and his wife Denise of Middletown, her daughter, Becky Tooker of Middletown and two grandchildren, Nicole and Danielle Tooker. She was predeceased by her son Michael.

The funeral service will be held Tuesday, Feb. 19 at 7 p.m. at Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver Street, Middletown. Friends may call prior to the service at the funeral home from 6 to 7 p.m. Burial will be in the spring in Middlefield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital , 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
