To the Residents of Middlefield and Rockfall,

My name is Joel Nick and I am running for the Board of Finance as an unaffiliated candidate.

I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, a Master’s degree in History, and a 6th Year degree in Educational Supervision from the University of Connecticut.  In my 19 years in education I have taught civics and economics, was a department leader for 14 years, and have been an educational consultant to the state. My wife and I have lived in Middlefield for eight years and we have two daughters who both attend John Lyman School.

I love the rich history of Middlefield and want to contribute to its future through public service. I served as an alternate on the Charter Revision Commission wish to serve the town again. I am a passionate supporter of Jon Brayshaw and Ed Bailey and truly appreciate their leadership in the sale of Powder Ridge to Sean Hayes, which has put the town in an excellent financial position for the future while preserving an asset to our town and the state.

I am excited about the prospect of working with my running mates, Dave Lowry and Bob Yammartino. We are committed to:

  • Maintaining and growing a strong Rainy Day Fund to enhance the town’s credit rating
  • Further strengthening the Capital Plan to a town-wide multi-year plan
  • Exercising strict financial restraint while providing vital services to all town residents

I think my background and qualifications have aptly prepared me to serve on the Board of Finance.  I am committed to Middlefield’s future and hope I can count on your support on November 5th.  Thank you.

Joel O. Nick
Board of Finance
