Lyman Orchards Sunflower Maze Raises $9,401 for CT Children’s Medical Center

The Middlefield business recently presented a check to the medical center.

MIDDLEFIELD, Conn. — A summer-time tradition that helps raise money for a good cause, Lyman Orchards’ recently presented the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center with a $9,401 check. The total amount raised is a direct result of this summer’s Sunflower Maze. Lyman Orchards donates one dollar from every maze visitor to the fund.

“We have a long and proud tradition of working together with the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center,” said John Lyman III, executive vice president, Lyman Orchards. “Our sunflower maze is a fun, family-centric adventure that helps raise money for a good cause. This really resonates with our customers and although people are enjoying themselves in the maze, they also know they’re helping to donate to an important issue. On behalf of everyone here at Lyman Orchards, I hope this money helps the children who are affected by this horrible disease.”

This year’s Sunflower Maze was a rollercoaster design that was made up of more than 350,000 red and yellow sunflowers. The maze has raised more than $44,858 for the Pediatric Cancer Unit at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center since 2007.

“Connecticut Children’s Medical Center is extremely grateful to Lyman Orchards and their guests,” said Dr. Michael Isakoff, M.D., medical director of Department of Hematology and Oncology, Connecticut Children’s Medical Center. “Families want world class care close to their homes and these donations certainly help make that a reality. We look to the community to help and the impact of these donations helps us immensely.”
