Congratulations to students Nate Botting, Maia Carpentino, and Talia Hincks (L to R), for serving as the college's Spring 2022 legislative interns. Nate is working for State Senator Dan Champagne (35th Senate district), and Maia is with State Senator Christine Cohen (12th Senate district). They were chosen over four-year university students to work for state senators. Talia is dividing her time between Rep. Brandon Chafee (33rd House district) and Rep. Gregg Haddad (54th House district).

Coordinated by political science professor Tad Lincoln, the Legislative Internship Program is a six-credit political science course offered each spring. Read more

Black History Month Panel Discussion

The Cultural Affairs Committee will present a Black Lives Matter (virtual) panel discussion on February 16 at 12:30 p.m. Moderated by Angelo Glaviano, committee chair, the guests include Steven Minkler, MxCC CEO, Wilfredo Nieves, MxCC President Emeritus; State Rep. Quentin “Q” Phipps; and Adam Webb, SGA president, Manchester Community College. They will look at the past year and gauge the status of racial relations in the country. Grad Dash 5K to Run on May 21

Save the date for the MxCC Foundation's annual Grad Dash road race. Come join us for a scenic 5K or 10K run/walk on Saturday, May 21, at 9 a.m. on the beautiful tree-lined roads along the reservoirs behind the Middletown campus. The event will follow the current state COVID-19 guidelines for road races. Registration to open soon.

Valentines for the Community

Middlesex students made nearly 100 Valentine's Day cards that were distributed to residents of Wallingford Senior Center Memory Lane and Chestelm Health and Rehabilitation Center in East Haddam. The card-making session was coordinated by professor Ashley Raithel and the Center for Civic Engagement. The center's next project will be collecting items for patients at UConn Health.

Eyeglass Clinic is Open for Appointments

How are your eyes feeling? With electronic device usage way up, more people are experiencing digital eye strain. MxCC Eyeglass Clinic in Chapman Hall lower level is now open. To keep patients safe, please email to make an appointment. Hours are Tuesday 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Wednesday 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. "See" you there!

Shawn's "Best" Semester

As a freshman on the swim team at Rider College, Portland native and 1990 Xavier grad Shawn McCann thought swimming was his ticket to earning a college degree. However, he didn’t consider himself to be a great student. Then, during his first year, he was injured and lost his focus. “I was not prepared for college,” he said. He came home and enrolled at Middlesex, where his life turned around. Today, Shawn is president of Best Cleaners. Full story

Game Room Gets a Makeover

On February 2, students celebrated the reopening of the renovated Game Room, located in Founders Hall. The walls were painted and new furniture along with additional improvements were made to spruce up the popular student hangout. More photos

Angelo Glaviano, professor of romance languages at Middlesex, is teaching Sicilian to area residents. His story was featured in The Connecticut Examiner in early February. Professor Glaviano is also working on a documentary about the history of Italians in Middletown with colleague Dan Nocera of the Center for New Media.
