Alum Shows Can-Do Spirit

Enrolling at MxCC can provide opportunities to explore different academic programs while earning valuable credits toward a degree, even for those who change their major or transfer to a four-year school later in their career. This describes 1979 MxCC alum Jeff Myjak’s educational journey. Readers may already know him as the one to contact for donating unredeemed cans. Jeff returns them and give the proceeds to area charities. Last month, he donated $1,000 to the Magic Food Bus pantry. Read his full story.

New Scholarship Honors Memory of Former Student

The MxCC Foundation established a scholarship to recognize student Miguel Jurado who passed away in a car accident last month. Business professor Sue Lugli said, "He was a very devoted VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) volunteer, helping with free tax preparation for many years. He also interned for Brown & Brown Insurance and that led him to a career with them as an accountant manager. He achieved many of his goals that he set forth when he came to MxCC."

Thanksgiving Project Donations

In November, students from the human services program and college staff contributed 100 boxes of stuffing to Middletown's annual Thanksgiving Project. MxCC volunteers also signed up to sort and load boxes of Thanksgiving meals and distribute them to area families in need.

Students Celebrate at Holiday Events

On December 1, MxCC students took in holiday cheer with hot chocolate, holiday sandwiches and cookies, while making stuffed bears, holiday tattoos, and more at Winterfest held in Founders Hall. On December 3, the Student Activities Office sponsored a Winter Dance at the Elks Club ballroom, where students, faculty, and staff enjoyed a buffet, danced, and had holiday fun with games and a photo booth.
