Obituary: Garry Victor Freemantle, 71, Of Middlefield

A U.S. Army veteran, he was a retired professional auctioneer and had owned a pony ride and petting zoo business.

MIDDLEFIELD, CT — (From Wallingford Funeral Home): Garry Victor Freemantle, 71, of Middlefield, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on Sunday, February 26, 2023 at Middlesex Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Cheryl (Eck) Freemantle for 34 years.

Garry was born in Meriden on April 15, 1951, Garry was a son of the late Lloyd D. and Cecelia (Delulio) Freemantle and had been a Middlefield resident for many years. As a young man, he was in the United States Army, proudly serving our country.

Garry was a retired professional auctioneer and had owned a pony ride and petting zoo business; prior to owning his own business Garry was employed for many years for Colony Lumber Co Inc and Lyon & Billard Lumber Co.

In addition to his beloved wife, Garry is survived by his son, David Freemantle and his fiancé, Brittany O’Hara of Middlefield; his daughter, Megan Atchison and her husband, Andrew of Bowie, Texas; grandchildren Bryson O’Hara, Eli and Ada Atchison: his sister, Eve Correia and her husband, Ralph of Wallingford; his brother, Scott Freemantle and his wife, Leora of Meriden; as well as numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Lloyd F. Freemantle.

Garry’s family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main Street Ext., on Friday, March 3 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. On Saturday, March 4, visitation will again be held from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. followed by a funeral service beginning at 10 a.m. Burial in Walnut Grove Cemetery with full military honors will follow.
