Volunteers Invited to Help Plan Selectman's Winter Warm-Up Party

Officials in Durham are organizing an event next month to benefit local families in need of fuel assistance this winter.

 

Durham officials are planning a party to benefit local families in need of help staying warm this winter.

First Selectman Laura Francis and Human Services Director Amanda Astarita recently began organizing the Selectman's Winter Warm-Up Party, an event scheduled to take place next month to raise money for fuel assistance.

Currently, there are about two-dozen Durham families that receive fuel assistance through Operation Fuel and Durham Interchurch Assistance, but the need continues to expand due to the high cost of home heating oil.

Proceeds from the event will be used to provide additional funding.

Anyone interested in helping organize the event is invited to attend a planning committee meeting tonight at 7 p.m. at the third floor meeting room at Town Hall.
