The State Police troopers who patrol the region that includes Durham and Middlefield will be aggressively looking for motorists driving under the influence this upcoming Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
The Troop F barracks based out of Westbrook is increasing patrol shifts with additional troopers and will be conducting DUI enforcement throughout the region in an effort to ensure safety for holiday drivers.
Patrol areas include as far south as Westbrook and Old Lyme up through Killingworth, Haddam, Lyme, Essex, Deep River, Old Lyme and up to Durham and Middlefield.
This includes Route 9 and Interstate 95.
Police will be utilizing traditional State Police cruisers as well as unmarked cruisers.
Lt. Patrick Torneo, of the Troop F barracks, also warns residents that police will be checking for seat belt violations and enforcing other motor vehicle laws.
"Excessive speed, intoxicated drivers, distracted, drivers and the lack of seat belt usage needlessly claims the lives of motorists on Connecticut roadways every year," police said in a news release. "We will continue to utilize all of the resources at our disposal to identify those operators who violate these laws and will take strict enforcement action against them.
