Storm Update from Town of Durham

This is Laura Francis - First Selectman of the Town of Durham.

Winter Storm Charlotte has dumped a significant amount of snow overnight.

Public works crews have been working around the clock to clear the roads. We have called in additional manpower and will have access to extra equipment today. Please be patient. We will get to your road.

Emergency calls will be given priority. The governor has ordered the roads closed for all vehicles except for emergency vehicles. He also declared a state of emergency. I have also done that for the Town of Durham. Do not try and travel our roads today.

Also. Please be careful as you try and clean out your own houses and driveways. Do a little at a time to avoid injuries. Medical assistance could be delayed.
We are working to get roadways open for Emergency Vehicles and First Responders in the event you have an emergency. It is critical right now that residents stay off the roads so that our Public Works Crews can continue their efforts to clear our roadways.

This is a record setting storm. It's going to take time to dig out of the snow. Stalled or abandoned vehicles will only slow that process. Residents are asked to check on Elderly and Disabled friends, neighbors and family.

Please use extreme caution when trying to dig out your driveways and walkways. For emergencies or health related issues, residents should call 911 immediately. To report power outages, call CL&P at 800-286-2000.
