Child, 3, Suffers Bullet 'Graze Wound' In Overnight Drive-by: Police

EAST HAVEN, CT — A three-year-old asleep in their bed in the middle of the night suffered what police said was a bullet "graze wound" in a "shots-fired" incident on Massachusetts Avenue.

East Haven police spokesperson, Capt. Joseph M. Murgo said it was around 1:15 a.m., when the East Haven Public Safety Dispatch Center got a 911 call from residents on Massachusetts Avenue who reported hearing several gunshots in the area.

When cops got there, they learned that a dark-colored SUV was seen traveling southbound on Massachusetts Avenue before someone "inside the vehicle fired out of a passenger window as the vehicle sped by," Murho said.

Investigators believe this was a targeted attack and are following up on several leads, Murgo said.

The child was treated on scene by East Haven Fire Department personnel before being transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

East Haven Police Investigative Services Division is in the neighborhood interviewing possible witnesses, Murgo said.

"We are asking residents to check their video surveillance systems for any dark-colored SUVs that may have driven by their residence in the area of Massachusetts Avenue and surrounding neighborhoods from approximately 1 a.m to 2 a.m., Murgo said.
