The driver's vehicle struck a tree and he later died as a result of the injuries sustained in the crash, police said.

EAST HAVEN, CT — A 47-year-old East Haven man, Wilber Nazario, of Joffre Street, was killed in a single vehicle crash on Forbes Place on Thursday, Police Capt. Joseph M. Murgo said.
At 12:10 p.m. while on routine patrol, Sergeant Shirley Conyers, who was traveling northbound on Forbes Place, saw a Toyota Highlander strike a tree in the area of Forbes Place/Sydney Street, police said.
"It was determined that the sole occupant of the vehicle, Wilber Nazario, was traveling southbound on Forbes Place when he passed a mail truck, also traveling southbound on Forbes Place," Murgo said in a news release. "The mail truck, which was stopped with (its) left turn signal activated, was attempting to turn left on to Sydney Street. The mail truck was not directly involved in the accident and was not struck by Nazario.
