East Haven Memorial Day Ceremony Honors the War Dead

East Haven's 2015 Honored Veteran is Felix DelGuidice.

The East Haven Veteran’s Council, along with Mayor Joseph Maturo Jr., this Memorial Day honored the selfless individuals who died to protect our freedom by continuing the town’s recent tradition of conducting ceremonies that reflect this tone.

This year’s ceremony featured remarks from Mayor Maturo and other town dignitaries who recognized East Haven resident Felix DelGuidice, who was named this year’s honored Veteran.

DelGuidice served in the United States Marine Corps. from 1947 to 1951, going overseas three different times to the South Pacific, Europe and South Korea.

He was awarded the Silver Star for Gallantry in Action, the Bronze Star with Valor and two Purple Hearts for wounds received in action. As a lifetime member of the Saint Andrew Society, DelGuidice was recently awarded their 2015 Community Service award as well.

The East Haven ceremony featured a procession from American Legion Post 89 on Thompson Avenue to the Green.

Club Corvette of Connecticut provided vehicles for veterans who chose to participate through their “Vets in Vettes” program.

Following the remarks from officials, Veterans, Color Guard and guests proceeded to the War Monuments where Honors were rendered.
