East Haven’s “Anginette Wars” Gets $8,000 for Clothe the Children

35 bakers and 400 people participated in Rotary Club Event at East Haven High School.

EAST HAVEN, CT - East Haven Rotary Club’s recently held “Anginette Wars” event has quickly become the club’s largest fundraiser in only the second year that it has hosted the event. Co-chairpersons, Cheryl Panzo and Joan Adamczyk have announced that the club expects to net close to $8,000 for this year’s event which featured both a record number of 35 bakers and attended by over 400 people held in the East Haven High School Atrium.

All net proceeds for “Anginette Wars” solely benefits the Club’s “Ben Mazzucco Clothe the Children” project. Each year on one Saturday in January the Club provides deserving children $100 to shop for items of clothing at Kohl’s Department Store in Branford. The Rotarians receive suggested lists of names of children from the elementary schools in the East Haven system. During the past seventeen years, the East Haven Rotary “Clothe the Children” program has provided clothing for almost 1000 children, which with the Kohl’s discounts, totals over $ 100,000 worth of merchandise that they have received.
The club now in its 80th year, was organized on March 3, 1939. Since that time the club has remained dedicated and committed to improving the community and citizens of East Haven. Through its annual scholarship program and Student of the Month, the club recognizes and encourages achievement of high school students. Amber Alert Identification cards, Clothe the Children, free Thanksgiving dinner and annual distribution of dictionaries to elementary school children are some of its many local volunteer activities.
