East Haven Star Student Athlete Joseph Shines On, Off Field, Mat

EAST HAVEN, CT — We all know student athletes who also bring their A-game to other parts of their lives.
Here at Patch, we've launched Help Patch Spotlight CT Student Athletes Who Are Also Good Kids, an initiative to help recognize these heroes making a difference in their communities. We’re working to let all your neighbors know the individual stories behind the leaderboard.

Why do you believe the star student athlete should be recognized?
My son Joe is an amazing athlete, he puts his whole heart into whatever sport he is playing at the time. Joe suffers from anxiety and sports really help him with it. When he was small he spent nights awake crying due to his anxiety, and between therapy and sports he has really come a long way. Sports are this kid's whole world. He played youth football, basketball, and baseball and when he started high-school he picked up wrestling and track. As a freshman at East Haven High School, he was a varsity in football and wrestling and also earned scholar athlete in both sports. In wrestling Joe was 1 of 2 kids to make it to the 2nd day of matches at the CIAC class m's for his school, sadly he lost and did not make it to the championship but the fact that he mad it that far is huge. In football so far this year, Joe has the most tackles for his School, and he plays both offense and defense. Joe also helps out with his younger brother's youth football team. When needed, Joe will help coach or work the chains on the field for the youth games. I know he's my son but this kid is so amazing, he is always the one to give his team a pep talk and try to keep their spirits up.
What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star student athlete?
He has a huge heart.

Joe is the type of person to put his all into the sport. He is driven and continues to stay motivated. He never missed practices and will stress himself out over a game because it means that much to him. He is the definition of a star athlete. His love for the sport continues to grow each day as he makes himself and his team move closer to success!
What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star student athlete?
Joe is one of the most kind-hearted, reliable people you will ever meet. His compassion is unlike any other. It’s one of the many things I love about him. He will ALWAYS put others before himself.
