East Haven Woman Scratches Her Way to a $30K CT Lottery Prize

The man knew his wife was a good luck charm and he had her scratch off the rest of the winning ticket, lottery officials said.

EAST HAVEN, CT — Maureen Maher of East Haven was in the right place at the right time when she won $30,000 on “30X The Cash 3rd Edition.”

On her way to a birthday party, Maher and her husband made a quick stop at a local CT Lottery retailer.

“We stopped by a gas station and he [Maher’s husband] was nice enough to put gas in my car,” Maher said with a smile, according to a news release by the Connecticut Lottery. While her husband tended to the car, Maher ran inside to buy him a scratch ticket as a kind gesture.

“He scratched the first line, looked at me and said—‘You need to finish this,’” Maher explained. Trusting his wife as the good luck charm turned out to be a fortunate decision. After playing the rest of the ticket, the couple was amazed to find themselves top prize winners. “He was over the moon—the two of us were in shock,” Maher said.

Knowing she had a large prize within her grasp, Maher put the winning ticket in a safe until a trip could be made to the CT Lottery headquarters in Rocky Hill.

Maher enjoys the simple things in life and seeks to tidy up the house with the winnings.

“I’ll update the front yard,” Maher said excitedly as she left the CT Lottery lobby with a big bright smile.

For selling the winning ticket Hill, A F Forbes INC located on 863 North High Street in East Haven will receive a $300 check from the CT Lottery.

The odds of winning a 30X The Cash 3rd Edition prize are 1 in 3.53; there are 19 remaining unclaimed top prizes.
