East Haven's Police Dog "Ace" Nabbed Suspected Branford Car Thief

Branford arrested two juveniles Tuesday morning in a series of car break-ins but needed East Haven's police dog to do so.

EAST HAVEN, CT - Branford police were able to catch two suspected car thieves Tuesdaymorning. One of the juveniles, police said, was caught by "Ace,” East Haven's police dog.

The town of Branford has been plagued in recent months by a series of car break-ins and automobile thefts by youths, according to Police Chief Kevin Halloran.

Tuesday morning, Branford police caught one juvenile after a chase happened after the stolen car three youths were in crashed into a Branford police car.

According to East Haven police, the three suspects bailed out of the car and fled on foot. The back seat passenger was apprehended by a Branford sergeant.

East Haven Officer Kevin McGuire responded to the area and conducted a K-9 track with K-9 Ace. Ace tracked through a residential neighborhood and tracked to a shed. Ace entered the shed and apprehended the suspect, who ended up being the driver of the stolen vehicle.

A third juvenile is still at large, according to police.

None of the names of the juveniles has been released because they are all under 18 years of age.
