Female Uber Driver Assaulted, Robbed, Carjacked At Forbes Station: PD

EAST HAVEN, CT — A woman Uber driver was attacked, had her purse and her car stolen overnight at the Forbes Gas Station on Frontage Road, police said.

According to East Haven police spokesperson Capt. Joseph M. Murgo, when cops arrived at around 1:40 a.m., they met and spoke with the victim who's stopped for gas before heading to pick up a customer. As she began pumping gas, she saw a black Nissan Rogue, later determined to be a stolen vehicle, pull into the gas station and park alongside her vehicle, Murgo said.

Three Black males wearing dark clothing and ski masks got out of the Nissan and tried to take her purse, Murgo said.

"After a brief struggle, one of the males began striking the victim in the face to get the purse from her," Murgo said, adding, "Once the purse was freed, the male suspects stole her vehicle."

Both the woman's car and the stolen Nissan took off westbound on Frontage Road into New Haven, he said. Shortly after, officers recovered the Nissan Rogue just over the line in New Haven, Murgo added.

The victim’s vehicle was located abandoned in West Haven on Thursday, Murgo said.

East Haven police detectives secured the vehicle and are currently processing it for evidence, the police captain said.

"Detectives are also working in close partnership with the New Haven Police Department, who also had a similar incident occur in their city just prior to the East Haven incident," Murgo said.
