'Gleeful' Train Conductor Surprises MetroNorth Riders

When Christmas caroling broke out on a MetroNorth train headed to New Haven from New York City, one conductor insisted it stop.

NEW HAVEN, CT - The Yale Glee Club was having a great time singing “Here We Come A-wassailing” while heading back from New York City via train recently.

But MetroNorth train conductor Bob McDonough wasn’t having anything to do with their singing. He walked into the train car, waved his hands back and forth saying “No, no, no, no, no,” until the singing trailed off.

Then he said something quite unexpected.

“You already did that one,” he said. “I’m the conductor! Let me conduct!”

The Glee Club singers’ silence gave way to laughter and then to song. McDonough conducted the singers in a beautiful rendition of “Carol of the Bells.”

He posted the below video on his Facebook page and couldn’t believe his good fortune.

“Not only did I have ‘The Yale Glee Club’ riding my train into NYC on Friday, but later that night they were on my train back home to New Haven,” McDonough wrote. “I told them I was a conductor, so I must conduct… and somehow they bought it. Did I mention they go to YALE?”

Thanks for sharing this unexpected holiday cheer, Yale Glee Club and Bob McDonough.
