Gone Dog: In 2 Days, 9 'Roaming' Dog Complaints, 2 Wandering Rescued

"While roaming, they run many risks from being taken to injured ...or worse," the East Haven Animal Shelter noted in a social media post.

"Please keep an eye on your dogs," the Shelter posted in all caps. "Not only is it dangerous, but it can also become expensive as there is a redemption fee and possibly an infraction for roaming."

EAST HAVEN, CT — For us of a certain age, a dog out and about walking around the neighborhood was not a rare sight. But things have changed. Life is faster and busier, with traffic also not what it used to be. Roaming dogs, or loose dogs wandering around, is not only socially unacceptable, it's against the law. And for canines and the two-legged, a roaming dog can be dangerous.

So when the East Haven Animal Shelter says the current state of dogs rambling —lost, just wandering or abandoned — is concerning, it is.

In a Facebook post the "the little shelter with a big heart," noted that in the past couple of days, it has responded to "nine roaming dog complaints and picked up two dogs roaming."

"As we know this is part of our job, we also become very concerned with the amount of loose dogs," the shelter posted as a public service message. "As much as we love seeing your fur babies, we would much rather see them on a leash safe and sound. While roaming, they run many risks from being taken to injured or worse."
