EAST HAVEN, CT — East Haven Firefighters Local 1205 took to Facebook Monday evening to again caution folks about the danger of fire amidst the ongoing drought and fire ban statewide.

"Earlier this evening, East Haven Professional Firefighters responded to a large brush fire in the North End neighborhood of town. The fire was brought under control in approximately two hours. This incident is another reminder of what can happen when outdoor burn warnings are ignored during the current drought conditions facing the area."

Fire Chief Matt Marcarelli told Patch that the brush fire that took hours to knock down was likely sparked by fireworks set off by kids in a parking lot, who fled when a fire ignited.

The state is still experiencing extremely dry conditions, creating high risk for the ignition and spread of wildfires.
