Obituary: Liberato “Libby” Consolatore, 90, of East Haven

Liberato “Libby” Consolatore, 90 passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on October 20, 2023. He was the loving husband of more than 70 years to Josephine “Jo” Quido Consolatore. He was born on December 13, 1932 in New Haven to the late Joseph and Maria Consolatore. He was a graduate of Wilber Cross High School, Class of 1952- where he was the captain and centerfielder of the baseball team. Libby had a signed contract to play baseball for the New York Giants Baseball team, but was drafted for the Korean War before he could play. After proudly serving in the United States Army and serving in the Presidential Honor Guard, he received the National Defense Service Medal, he went to work for the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier for many years. Libby loved opera and show music, crabbing and fishing but loved nothing more than his wife and the family that they built together. He was a wonderful man, who will be missed by everyone who knew him.

Libby is survived by his loving wife Josephine, His Son Robert Consolatore, Linda (Dino) Gallo, and Kim (James) Oca all of East Haven, a brother Vito (Maxine) Consolatore and his beloved grandchildren James Oca III, Katelyn Oca, Jesse Gallo and Robert Consolatore Jr. He was predeceased by his brothers Lee and John Consolatore and his sisters Philomena Tonucci and Rose Blake.
Libby’s funeral procession will leave the East Haven Memorial Funeral Home on TUESDAY October 24, 2023 for a Mass of Cristian Burial at St. Pio of Pietrelcina Parish at St. Vincent DePaul Church at 11:30am. Calling hours will be on TUESDAY October 24, 2023 from 9:00-11:00am. Burial will immediately follow at East Lawn Cemetery.
