Obituary: A. Michael “Mike” Montesanto, Sr., 80, of East Haven

Devoted to the family business, Powsner Auto Body, he was lifetime member of the B.P.O. Elks and had a passion for fixing everything​.

A. Michael “Mike” Montesanto, Sr., 80, of East Haven, beloved husband of Roberta “Toby” (Henry) Montesanto, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2023 at CT Hospice. Loving father of Sharon (Jim) Sprouse, Lauri (Joe) Kikosicki and A. Michael “Mike” (Michele) Montesanto, Jr, and brother of David (Lucille) Montesanto, all of East Haven. Brother-in-law of John “Jack” (Linda) Henry of Guilford. Cherished “Pop” of Kristin, Megan and Jordan Kikosicki and Staff Sargent Michael USMC (Carrie) and Haley Montesanto. Proud great-grandfather of Matteo and Nico Montesanto, and uncle to many nieces and nephews. Mike was born in New Haven on August 30, 1943, son of the late Albert “AJ” and Rita (Talchi) Montesanto.

He loved spending time with his family and watching his grandchildren play sports over the years. He was extremely proud of his grandson’s service in the United States Marines. Mike was a licensed auto appraiser, who started working with his father at their family business, Powsner Auto Body in New Haven, while he was in high school. He continued as president, never retiring, alongside his brother and son. He was a lifetime member of the B.P.O. Elks. He had a passion for fixing everything, enjoyed spending time outside, and riding his tractor at his house in Vermont.

Mike’s family would like to extend their gratitude to his longtime physician, Dr. Frank Mongillo, as well as the staff at Yale New Haven Hospital and CT Hospice.

His funeral procession will leave the PORTO FUNERAL HOME, 234 Foxon Rd. (Rte 80) East Haven Monday morning at 10:30. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the St. Pio of Pietrelcina Parish at St. Vincent DePaul Church at 11:00. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. Family and friends may call SUNDAY from 4:00-7:00 PM.
