Patch Candidate Profile: Joseph Kikosicki, Town Council, District 5

EAST HAVEN, CT — The 2023 municipal election is heating up in East Haven and there are plenty of local races with candidates eager to serve in elected office.

East Haven Patch asked candidates to answer questions about their campaigns and will be publishing candidate profiles as Election Day draws near.

Incumbent Democrat Joseph Kikosicki, 56, is seeking reelection to the East Haven Town Council, District 5.

Yes, married to my wife Lauri for 30 years and we have three daughters. Kristin, Megan and Jordan

Does anyone in your family work in politics or government?

No

Have you ever held a public office, whether appointive or elective?

My current Town Council position

Now we'd like to ask a few questions about your reasons for running and your general views on politics and government. First, why are you seeking this office?

To give back and make a difference in the great town my family and I were raised in.

Please complete this statement: The single most pressing issue facing my constituents is ____, and this is what I intend to do about it.

Managing financial pressures in a challenging economic environment. Work with my colleagues to control taxes and be fiscally responsible within the town.

What are the major differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?

My significant global work experience brings a different perspective and adds value to the decision-making process. In addition, I lived and raised my family in this town for over 50 years. I have a broad understanding of what’s important to our residents and why a sense of community is so important.

If you are challenging an incumbent, in what way has the current officeholder failed the community?

I am the incumbent.

What other issues do you intend to address during your campaign?

Why it is important to continue the great progress the Carfora administration has done for the town of East Haven.

What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?

I have worked as an executive for many years and have managed large significant projects and budgets. I have a great ability to collaborate and drive inclusive conversations

What is the best advice anyone ever gave you?

Listen to understand others is foundational to making positive progress.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about yourself and your positions?

The great town of East Haven has provided me a tremendous foundation and it’s my time to give back and help continue all the positive progress being made.
