From A Seed Of An Idea, Community Garden Blooms On Moulthrop Street
It's not a secret garden, it's a shared-space garden for people to gather and grow, an idea proposed by a group of "dedicated" residents.

EAST HAVEN, CT —It's official. The town has a Community Garden. The initiative is "aimed at enhancing the quality of life and stronger sense of community among residents," officials said in a news release.
The shared-space garden, where residents may rent plots to cultivate everything from fruits and vegetables to flowers "while promoting sustainability, social interaction, and wellness," is located on Moulthrop Street.
"I am incredibly proud to see the East Haven Community Garden come to fruition," Mayor Joseph Carfora said. "This project was initially brought to us by a small group of extremely dedicated residents. We shared the same vision to build the garden and, in turn, a stronger and healthier community."

According to the town, community gardens have "proven to be invaluable assets to municipalities across the nation, and East Haven is no exception."
It's noted that the garden "will not only beautify our town but also offer numerous benefits, including improved access to fresh, locally grown food, reduced environmental impact, and the promotion of healthy outdoor activities."

And it's a space for folks to "come together, share knowledge, and build lasting friendships," town officials noted.
"The Community Garden is a place where residents can connect with each other, learn about best gardening practices, and enjoy the fruits of their labor," Carfora said. "I believe that every initiative like this enhances our town's beauty and fosters a sense of unity among our residents."
East Haven Economic Development Director Michelle Benivegna noted that "residents played a pivotal role in making this project a reality."
"It was their passion that started this, and their continued efforts will help it thrive," she said. Benivegna also praised the efforts of Public Works Superintendent Charlie Coyle and public works staffers.
"The success of the East Haven Community Garden would not have been possible without the
dedication and hard work of Charlie and his team," she said. "They have transformed this space into a thriving garden that will benefit our community for years to come. Their attention to detail and commitment to excellence have been remarkable."

The Moulthrop Street Community Garden has individual plots for rent on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information about the East Haven Community Garden or 2024 plot availability, please contact the Mayor's Office at mayor@easthaven-ct.gov.
“We look forward to seeing the community come together and make the East Haven Community Garden a thriving and rewarding space that benefits everyone,” Carfora said.
