ELLINGTON-SOMERS, CT — Here are some recent notable accomplishments by local college students, as provided by readMedia Newswire. More great feats will be noted as they are received in the coming weeks.

Clark University, Worcester MA

  • Aaron J. Mickiewicz, of Ellington, was named to second honors on the Clark University Dean's List. This selection marks outstanding academic achievement during the spring 2025 semester.
    Students must have a GPA of 3.8 or above for first honors or a GPA between 3.50 and 3.79 for second honors.

  • Nathan Beturne of Ellington and Melea Wolters of Somers earned places on the Dean's List for the spring 2025 semester.

Emerson College, Boston MA

  • Two students from Ellington were named to Emerson College's Dean's List for the spring 2025 semester.Ashley Maningas is majoring in marketing communication and is a member of the Class of 2026. Colleen McGrath is majoring in theatre education and is a member of the Class of 2028. To make the Dean's List, students must have a grade point average of 3.7 or higher for that semester.

  • Three residents of Ellington and one from Somers earned spots on the spring 2025 Dean's List. Those students and their majors are Ava Caron of Ellington, education; Kevin Lunsford of Ellington, accounting; Hannah Spivey of Ellington, English; and Ryan Symington of Somers, accounting & finance. To be named to the Dean’s List, a student must obtain a minimum grade point average of 3.5, receive no grade below a "C," have no withdrawal grades, and be enrolled in a minimum of 12 credits for the semester.

Plymouth State University, Plymouth NH

  • Plymouth State University conducted its 154th anniversary commencement ceremonies on Friday-Saturday, May 9-10, 2025, at the Bank of New Hampshire Field House in the Active Living, Learning, and Wellness (ALLWell) North Building. Caleb Duff and Garrett Maznicki, both of Somers, graduated with Bachelor of Science degrees in marketing.

State University of New York, Cortland NY

  • Ryan Wheeler, an archaeology major from Ellington, was one of 13 SUNY Cortland students selected to pursue donor-funded summer fellowship research, continuing a university program in its 19th year of existence. Managed by the university's Undergraduate Research Council, the summer fellowship research gives students a $4,000 stipend and campus research space and housing during eight weeks of full-time study from late May through early August. They will present the results of their studies at the university's annual Transformations: A Student Research and Creativity Conference.

University of Mississippi, University MS

  • Peyton Holden, of Ellington, was named to the University of Mississippi's spring 2025 Honor Roll lists. Holden, majoring in psychology, was named to the Chancellor's Honor Roll, which is reserved for students who earn a semester GPA of 3.75-4.00. To be eligible for honor roll designation, a student must have completed at least 12 graded hours for the semester and may not be on academic probation during the semester.
