ELLINGTON-SOMERS, CT — Here are some recent notable accomplishments by local college students, as provided by readMedia Newswire. More great feats will be noted as they are received in the coming weeks.
Eastern Connecticut State University, Willimantic CT
- Nineteen English students at ECSU embarked on an annual global field course to Florence, Italy, from June 22 to Aug. 2. Titled "Creative Writing Abroad," the course was led by English Professor Christopher Torockio and allowed students to draw writing inspiration by immersing in Italian culture and the countryside. During their six weeks abroad, students were assigned to write a short story inspired by their time in Italy. In doing so, they had ample opportunities to explore locations outside Florence. Among the travelers was Jessica Curtis of Somers, a senior majoring in English.
Goodwin University, East Hartford CT

- Goodwin University's President's List for the spring 2025 session includes 321 students, all of whom scored a perfect 4.0 GPA. Among them were Ericka Cotto, Casey Noller and Danielle Taylor, all of Ellington, and Kylie Lallier of Somers.
- Kayleigh Carbone and Emma Saucier, both of Ellington, achieved Dean's List status for the spring 2025 session. Dean's List inclusion requires a student to earn a minimum 3.5 GPA, the equivalent of an A- average, during a given academic session. The student must also be enrolled in a minimum of six academic credits to qualify.
Roger Williams University, Bristol RI
- Sarah Smithline of Somers graduated with a Master of Architecture degree and a Graduate Certificate in real estate in May as part of the Class of 2025.
Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Worcester MA

- Griffin St. Pierre of Ellington, a member of the class of 2026 majoring in biomedical engineering and mechanical engineering at WPI, was a member of a student team that recently completed a professional-level research-driven project titled "Mobility in Venice: A Deep Dive into Bridges."
