SOMERS, CT — A Massachusetts man was arrested late Thursday night after driving across a lawn, then smashing his car into a brick wall and striking another vehicle on Springfield Road.

The driver, a 35-year-old resident of East Longmeadow, was charged with operating under the influence of drugs or alcohol and failure to maintain proper lane. He was released on a $500 cash bond, and is slated to appear in Rockville Superior Court Oct. 4.

According to a state police report, troopers responded around 11:19 p.m. to a reported motor vehicle collision on Route 83, also known as Springfield Road. An investigation determined the operator of a 2018 Audi A4 failed to obey a stop sign at the intersection of Bugbee Lane and Springfield Road, crossed both the north and southbound travel lanes of Springfield Road and then drove across the front lawn of a residence. The car struck a brick wall, then hit a Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, which was unoccupied.
