Fatal Crash In Somers Claims Life Of Stafford Resident [UPDATED]

SOMERS, CT — A section of Route 190 in Somers was closed for several hours Thursday morning because of a serious accident, which turned out to be fatal, authorities said.

Route 190 is known locally as Main Street.

The crash took place around 6:31 a.m. on Route 190 in the area of Wells Road. The driver of a Volkswagen Jetta, Paul Bowler, 32, of Stafford, was extricated from the vehicle by firefighters and taken to Johnson Memorial Hospital, where he died around 7:10 a.m., state police said.

A police report indicates Bowler was traveling westbound when his car left the roadway and collided with a mailbox, an embankment and two trees before coming to rest on its roof.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, and anyone with information is asked to contact Resident Trooper Justin Preuss at 860-749-4955.
