Ellington Man Killed After Pickup Truck Hits Wall In Manchester

A crash in the Buckland Hills area of Manchester claimed the life of an Ellington man, police said.

MANCHESTER, CT — An Ellington resident was killed in a crash in the Buckland Hills commercial district of Manchester Friday, police said.

The crash took place at 4:23 p.m. on Buckland Street at the Interstate 84 eastbound high occupancy vehicle lane off-ramp, police said.

When officers arrived, they found a single vehicle against a retaining wall with one person inside, according to a crash report.

Emergency medical care was given to the driver at the scene and he was transported to Hartford Hospital by ambulance, police said. He was pronounced dead a short time later, according to the report.

The driver was identified Monday morning as Daniel Laffin, 41, of Ellington.

Police said a preliminary investigation showed that a pickup truck had been traveling eastbound on the I-84 eastbound Exit 62 HOV lane off-ramp and was involved in a minor collision with another vehicle. The pickup truck, however, continued traveling eastbound down the ramp, straight through the intersection with Buckland Street and into a concrete retaining wall on the east side of Buckland Street, according t a crash report.

The crash remains under investigation by the Manchester Police Department Traffic Unit and the Metro Traffic Services Crash Reconstruction Team. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has additional information can contact Officer Jonathan Sargolini at 860-643-3342.
