HARTFORD/TOLLAND COUNTIES, CT — An overnight downpour left many streets and yards in northern Connecticut flooded, and police departments calling on motorists to exercise common sense when driving near, or in some cases, in flooded areas.

As usual, Cranbrook Boulevard in Enfield is filled with water, and sawhorses have been placed on each side by police. Considerable flooding was reported by residents and town officials in Ellington, while the storm brought 4 to 5 inches of rain per hour to West Hartford, immediately overwhelming drainage systems and causing street flooding.

On its Twitter page, the South Windsor Police Department stated, "We are aware there are several flooded streets in South Windsor. Our officers and the Public Works department are responding to as many locations as possible to block roadways that aren't passable. Please do not drive your car through standing water. It is dangerous and you could get trapped and/or injured."
