SOMERS, CT — A recent surge in the COVID-19 positivity rate has prompted the Somers Board of Selectmen to reinstate a policy of requiring masks be worn upon entering all municipal buildings, regardless of vaccination status, effective immediately.

A program approved by Gov. Ned Lamont to distribute home test kits to Connecticut residents will begin in Somers Thursday from 4-8 p.m., and continue Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Residents planning on obtaining a test kit will enter the Somers Fire Department from Ninth District Road and proceed to the rear of the station, then drive through one of the truck bays and exit onto Main Street.

The kits will only be distributed to Somers residents, and proof of residency such as a government-issued identification card will be required before any kits are provided. There will be a limit to the number of test kits each family will receive, based on the number of kits Somers is given.
