More Great Accomplishments By Ellington, Somers College Students

ELLINGTON-SOMERS, CT — Here are some recent notable accomplishments by local college students, as provided by readMedia Newswire. More great feats will be noted as they are received in the coming weeks.

American International College, Springfield MA

• Sarah Thiel of Somers was among more than 40 students recognized by American International College (AIC) during its Academic Awards ceremony on April 23, 2024, in the College's Griswold Theatre. Thiel, whose major is nursing, was awarded with the college's Lillian Soloman Award.

Eastern Connecticut State University, Willimantic CT

• With the Class of 2024 recently graduated, many of Eastern's newest alumni are beginning their careers while others are choosing to continue their studies. Among these students is senior Isabel Mund of Ellington, who majors in biology. Mund will be working toward her doctorate in optometry at the New England College of Optometry. During the four-year program, Mund will complete courses and clinical rotations.

Emerson College, Boston MA

• Ashley Maningas of Ellington earned Dean's List list honors from Emerson College for the spring 2024 semester. Maningas is majoring in marketing communication and is a member of the Class of 2026. The requirement to make Dean's List is a grade point average of 3.7 or higher for that semester.

Hofstra University, Hempstead NY

• Grace Dubiel of Ellington graduated from Hofstra University in May 2024, earning a degree in dance.

Springfield College, Springfield MA

• Springfield College has named Natalie Chamberlin from Ellington to the dean's list for academic excellence for the 2024 spring semester. Chamberlin has a primary major of computer science/criminal justice.

University of Mississippi, University MS

• Peyton Holden of Ellington was named to the University of Mississippi's spring 2024 Honor Roll lists. Holden, majoring in psychology, was named to the Dean's Honor Roll, which is reserved for students who earn a semester GPA of 3.50-3.74.

University of Rhode Island, Kingston RI

• The University of Rhode Island is pleased to announce the spring 2024 Dean's List. Students named to the Dean's List represent nearly all of Rhode Island's cities and towns, all six New England states, New York and New Jersey, and many other states and countries. Local students making the list were James Sternat, Elizabeth Lewis, McKenna Cahill and Matthew Gervin, all of Ellington, and Somers residents Jack Benedict and Elena Riggins. To be included on the Dean's List, full-time students must have completed 12 or more credits for letter grades which are GPA applicable during a semester and achieved at least a 3.30 quality point average.

Western New England University, Springfield MA

• The Western New England University chapter of Pi Alpha Theta National Honor Society welcomed 14 students at the University's annual induction ceremony on April 18 in the Clarke Reading Room, D'Amour Library on the University campus. Phi Alpha Theta is the history honor society. The society promotes the study of history through the engagement of research, good teaching, publication, and the exchange of ideas. The society seeks to bring students, teacher, and writers of history together for intellectual and social exchanges which promote and assist historical research and publication. Local students wnducted were Julia Catellier of Somers, Secondary Education Historyl; Jeffrey Devlin of Somers, Economics; and Colton Falletti of Ellington, History.
