SOMERS, CT — Following the lead of several neighboring communities, the town of Somers hosted its inaugural National Night Out event Tuesday at Connor's Place in Field Road Park. Under gorgeous sunny skies, camaraderie between first responders, municipal employees and the community at-large was on full display.
The community-building campaign that promotes police and community partnerships attracted hundreds of residents, who interacted with local police, firefighters, emergency personnel and members of civic organizations. There was music in the air, and family fun was aplenty.
Taylor Setzler, the town's prevention coordinator, said the town was able to utilize a recent grant to launch several initiatives, including National Night Out.

Connecticut State Police Resident Trooper Joshua Preuss said, "I was told they had talked about it last year prior to my arrival here in Somers. I'm excited to be here, it's a great event and we've had a lot of people show up. A lot of children are excited about meeting the police and fire department and going on the boat of the Emergency Services Unit."
