Somers Parents Give High Marks to Summer Day Camp

Parents of children who attended the camp this past Summer wrote many positive remarks about the camp in a recent survey.

Enrollment and attendance in the Somers Day Camp which ran from June to August was at record numbers in 2013, outpacing last year, the town's Recreational Department announced in a press release.

And not only was the attendance so high but, according to the results of a recent town-conducted survey, many parents were pleased with the program.

"Parents were invited to complete an online survey after the camp was over and the results showed that, overall, the camp rating was excellent to very good," the town said in a press release.

Here are a few of the remarks:

"Great staff - they were all very engaged and seemed to really enjoy being with the kids! Field trips also provided something different for kids to look forward to each week. I also liked the fact kids were given options of activities they could participate in."

"The field trips of course. And the fact that the kid to counselor ratio was so low. That the kids had the option to pick from things to do at any one time."

"The communication was great. I always knew what was planned and what was going on."

Many parents also said they would return with their campers next year, saying they praised the staff and asked them to "keep up the good work."

"We are very pleased with contribution made by Mr. Szafir, who organized the camp program and to the wonderful staff who worked with him and the campers," the town said. "Somers looks forward to hosting the Summer Camp Program next year."
