Somers Taking Applications for Housing Repair Projects

Residents are eligible for federal loans toward health and safety standards, like roof repairs and asbestos removal.

The Town of Somers is now accepting applications from eligible town residents who need to make home repairs for health and safety issues.

Somers is one of three communities — the others being Ellington and Suffield — to take part in a $450,000 federal Housing Rehabilitation Regional Grant the three towns received earlier this year.

In a Facebook posting, the town announced the homeowners that the town selects will receive "a no-interest loan for the rehab of residential properties which do not have to be repaid for as long as the applicant lives in the home."

Some examples of past Rehab projects include eligible lead paint and asbestos related work, roof repairs, stairs, handicap ramps and more.

For more information, please contact the Town's Human Services Coordinator Amy Saada at 860-763-4379.
