ELLINGTON-SOMERS, CT — Here are some recent notable accomplishments by local college students, as provided by readMedia Newswire. More great college achievements will be noted as they are received in the coming weeks.

Central Connecticut State University, New Britain CT

  • A number of local students were named to the spring 2024 Dean’s List at Central Connecticut State University. They were Ellington residents Nora Hany, Abel Kloter, Zoha Murtaza, Anna Sirois, Skylar Townsend and Ryan Zahner, as well as Brieanna Bernier, Amelia Carenzo, Danielle Hoague, Cameron Pape, Vincenzo Rumore, Nicole Tardif and Mallory Wohlers, all of Somers.

  • Emma N. Cheyney, of Somers, received a degree from Clark University during its 120th commencement exercises on Monday, May 20. Cheyney graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts.

College of Our Lady of the Elms, Chicopee MA

  • The College of Our Lady of the Elms congratulates more than 400 students who received their degrees during its 93rd commencement on May 18, 2024 at the MassMutual Center in Springfield, Massachusetts. Local graduates were Melissa Boweman of Somers, Bachelor of Science degree in social work; Sydney Kennison of Somers, Bachelor of Arts degree in communication sciences & disorders; James Maznicki of Ellington, Bachelor of Arts degree in professional studies; and Aneesa Padilla of Somers, Bachelor of Science degree in social work.
  • The College of Our Lady of the Elms has named the following local students to the dean's list for the spring 2024 semester: Melissa Bowerman, Francesca Cardinale, Sydney Kennison and Thomas Kennison, all of Somers, and James Maznicki of Ellington.

  • Morgan Juzba and Anna Majowicz, both of Somers, and Isabella Flavell of Ellington were among more than 800 students named to the Dean's List for the spring 2024 semester. To earn a spot on the Dean's List, Emmanuel students must achieve a grade point average of 3.5 or higher for a 16-credit semester.

Endicott College, Beverly MA

  • Ellington residents Ava Caron, Lauren Johnson, Kevin Lunsford and Hannah Spivey, along with Zachary Hojnowski of Somers, made the Dean's List for the spring 2024 semester. To be named to the Dean’s List, a student must obtain a minimum grade point average of 3.5, receive no grade below a "C," have no withdrawal grades, and be enrolled in a minimum of 12 credits for the semester.

Hamilton College, Clinton NY

  • William Burstein of Ellington received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Hamilton College on Sunday, May 19, in a commencement ceremony concluding the college's 212th year. Burstein majored in mathematics.

Rochester Institute of Technology, Rochester NY

  • Rochester Institute of Technology conferred nearly 4,500 degrees at all of its campuses in the 2023-2024 academic year. RIT's academic convocation celebration was held in May and featured remarks by Patricia "Pattie" Moore, a distinguished designer and trailblazing alumna of the class of 1974. Phil Kalinowski of Somers received a BS in new media interactive development, Alex Slotter of Ellington received a BS in imaging science and Liv Soto of Ellington received a BS in exercise science.
  • Seven local students were named to the Dean's List at Rochester Institute of Technology for the spring semester of the 2023-2024 academic year. They were Bailey O'Brien of Ellington, ASL-English interpretation program; Liv Soto of Ellington, exercise science program; Nathan Caron of Ellington, game design and development program; Jared Cranna of Somers, mechanical engineering program; Phil Kalinowski of Somers, new media interactive development program; Katiya Zawrotny of Somers, new media interactive development program; and Jaysen Stolarz of Ellington, software engineering program. Full-time degree-seeking undergraduate students are eligible for Dean's List if their term GPA is greater than or equal to 3.400; they do not have any grades of "Incomplete", "D" or "F"; and they have registered for, and completed, at least 12 credit hours.

University of Rhode Island, Kingston RI

  • The University of Rhode Island celebrated more than 4,100 of its newest alumni during the university's 2024 commencement. Nearly 4,000 undergraduate degrees and 800 graduate degrees were conveyed to students during the ceremonies, which took place May 17-19, 2024.
    Among them were Christopher Hoover and Madison Langone, both of Ellington, and Alexander Barresi of Somers.
